Douglas was familiar with the property and had always been willing to give valuable advice regarding its upkeep and presentation . When I made the decision to sell I was anxious that Douglas should be involved and was delighted when he agreed. 

 

From the moment the property was placed on the market Douglas was indefatigable in its promotion. He was present at each of the six advertised “Open House” occasions and was always happy to oblige when clients have wanted to return for a private second look. I was worried about trying to sell my late father's house - as a deceased estate that had long been unoccupied, it was definitely lacking in presentation. The garden was badly overgrown with rampant bamboo, electricity and water had been disconnected, and the home was basically serving just as storage for goods long forgotten. Douglas had sold the neighbour's house a couple of years ago, so as executor of the estate I contacted him for an opinion as to how to market my father's place and what it might be worth. I had intended to seek appraisals from several other agents in the area, but within 10 minutes of chatting to Douglas on-site I realised that wouldn't be necessary. He knew what he was talking about (having sold many houses in the same street) and didn't beat about the bush concerning the attributes and drawbacks of the property. His sincerity was very evident and I was more than happy to leave the marketing in his capable hands. It turned out that he already knew from his database of several people who would be interested. Despite advertising being minimal (which, given the condition of the house and land, was just as I wanted), several offers were submitted, and contracts were exchanged in just over a week to a local family who had previously sold their own home through Douglas. The price achieved had been accurately estimated and I was very pleased with the result, particularly the fact that the whole process had been so easy and free from stress. Douglas had successfully highlighted the potential of the property to the purchasers who will renovate the house to retain much of its unique design. It takes an exceptional agent to sell a property that doesn't lend itself to conventional marketing, and Douglas was certainly up to the challenge with the benefit of his long experience in the area and outstanding knowledge of potential buyers. Douglas Macarthur is the most genuine, hardworking, and honest salesperson I have ever met, and despite being a Sydney agent for a few decades, still hasn't lost his hometown country charm and work ethic. We have known Douglas for almost 15 years, so when it came time to sell our townhouse, we knew there was no one else we would trust to help us navigate this stressful process.

The communication and feedback from Douglas has been exemplary through every step of the way. Not only did we get a text message, email and phone call after every open inspection, there was not a single day during the auction campaign that Douglas didn't touch base with us, most days on numerous occasions. And I know he spent hours and hours texting, emailing and calling potential buyers. He managed all the pre-market tradesmen, photographers, and inspectors, as well as liaising seamlessly with our conveyancer and strata agent.

Before the first open home I was on my way to the property to sweep the courtyard and mop the kitchen floors, when I realised I had forgotten the keys. One quick call to Douglas to see if I could pick up his set of keys on the way through and Douglas volunteered to do the tidy up for me! To say he took the stress out of selling our property is an understatement.

Come auction day, Douglas had a queue of bidders lined up out the door. Of the 11 parties registered to bid, 7 different groups tried their luck, with Douglas going around the parties to help one lucky couple secure our first home. The final price was beyond our wildest dreams, achieving a record price in the complex for a 2 bedroom, two garage townhouse, through Douglas's hard work and impressive relationship building. With his down-to-earth nature, Douglas has made many connections and will hopefully help the unsuccessful bidders find their new home soon.

Douglas worked very diligently to sell our house in Beecroft. With his considerable local knowledge, expertise and market experience he was able to canvass across a huge body of potential purchasers. He very deliberately tried to minimise expenses for us by first consulting his own database of potential buyers and finally advertised the property on Domain and Real Estate.com. Douglas organised and attended numerous house openings during the marketing period and went to lengths to ensure we were constantly apprised of the outcomes and interest. He actively negotiated on our behalf with several potential purchasers, including the eventual buyers, and again kept us constantly and immediately updated. Before the property went on market Douglas organised several trades to do necessary work on the house and surveyed and reported back to us as we were isolated in WA, as we still are. Additionally Douglas went way above ordinary expectations in organising final cleanup when we were unable to do so ourselves. This involved quite a bit of physical labour of his own.
